The Big Kids Lobby

We have one simple request.

We would prefer to NOT write about politics every week and focus more on human interest stories, the world of entertainmentcultureor fine literature.

To that end we ask: could our elected leaders please stop acting like utter douchebags long enough for something — anything — to capture our attention for just one news cycle?

Most egregiously, last week the Arkansas state legislature passed a bill allowing fat-cat lobbyists like Laura Kellams to take state lawmakers on lavish junkets — on behalf of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families — to cozy them up to their own special interests like “the public education industry” and “children’s health care cartels.”

It. Makes. Me. Sick.

The state’s most erroneously named newspaper — The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette — wrote a hit piece last Sunday on Laura’s looming influence over the state Capitol which widely quoted her husband/PR flack, Kyle “Kellyann” Kellams and his litany of alternative facts.

Just like Big Tobacco, Big PhRMA and Big Papi, the Big Kids Lobbyjust keeps getting more powerful. Meanwhile, no one is left to fight for those unfortunate country club members who MAY have to start paying sales tax on membership dues.* Oh, the humanity.

This Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 is just the latest example of cronyism’s largess as the AACF (and their ilk) gather together at the John Q. Hammons Center for their annual back-slapping festival, Soup Sunday.  I’m sure they will imbibe the finest soups, from the finest Dixie cups, sorted onto muffin trays that are…ummmmm…the finest.

Well, I say No More!  It’s time to finally put an end to good causes, and fight back against people who dedicate their lives to help build a better future for children in our state.  Join us today at the West Mountain Brewing Company to stop whining about the system, and start fighting the revolution.

West Mountain Brewing Company — 4:30 to 6:30

*We’re kidding.  That Country Club sales tax bill will never see the light of day.
