In a galaxy far, far away...
/This week has given us a treasure trove of storylines from which we could choose as today's central discussion point:
- The people of Alabama have spoken and Roy Moore lost. (or maybe Doug Jones won?) . We also learned O'Roy cannot ride a horse.
- We have a new football coach on the hill and he is very good at cranking out home-spun colloquialisms that make great sound bytes like 'get in the left lane and put the hammer down' and 'full-tilt boogie'
- Cryptocurrency bubble? Bitcoin hit 17000 and people are losing their minds.
But the best story of the week has been 40 years in the making. Yes, I'm talking about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. If you are like this writer, you have been a Star Wars fan for over four decades. I remember being but a wee lad in 1977 and going to see Star Wars (episode 4, A New Hope). This Lucas-spawned, generational storytelling vehicle has had more impact on our collective American culture than anything else in the modern era. It has also driven a ridiculous amount of merch sales.
Whether you are a Star Wars fan, or not, join us today at Maxine's for cocktails and a lively discussion about any of the aforementioned topics... or bring your own.
5pm, Maxine's Tap Room, I'll be the one in the wookie outfit
